See The Other Day
See The Other Day is a site-specific work that frames part of the landscape through a circular window with a shoji screen, focusing on the unique qualities and charm of the location. In Japanese gardens, there is a style known as “borrowed scenery,” where distant, beautiful views or structures, like temples, are incorporated into the garden’s landscape. This piece serves as a mobile version of borrowed scenery, designed for repeated assembly and disassembly. By framing a specific view, it transforms what was previously just background scenery into a once-in-a-lifetime, special experience, or it turns a familiar, everyday view into something extraordinary.
This installation was exhibited near the Tone River in Toride City, Ibaraki Prefecture. Thanks to the support of the local community, including the Toride City Hall, she was able to put on this show. Although it was a spontaneous, unannounced guerrilla display, she aimed to foster local connections and dialogue through audience interactions with the work.
