KOSUDO Scope

The three-dimensional work exhibited at the Kosudo ART Project 2021+ held in Niigata Prefecture. During her research in Kosudo, she became most interested in the vertical structure of the townhouses. From the storefronts visible along the shopping street, it was impossible to imagine the deep interior spaces, which were cleverly designed. In Kosudo, while there are still active shops, there are also closed shops that have been left empty or remain with their interiors intact. She became curious about the lives people had led in these spaces as she gazed through the glass.

The townhouses have a structure that suggests unseen depths. In reality, you can’t know how far the interior extends unless you actually enter. From this kind of experience, she compared the feeling of imagining depth to the view through a scope.
